Going Against the Prevalence of Social Media

Social media revolves around content.

Some Positive Aspects:

• Social media makes it easy to create and publish content.
• Social media helps the content we create be easily found.
• There is no direct financial cost.

Some Negative Aspects:

• Social media takes ownership of the content we create.
• Social media is designed to be addictive.
• Many businesses depend directly on social media.
• Over the years, the social media environment becomes increasingly toxic.

What Can We Do?

The central point is to take control of the content we create by seeking alternatives for creation and publication through blogs.

The proposal, at least for now, is not to abruptly abandon social media. We are too used to its constant use. But it would be beneficial, at the very least, to publish the same content on both blogs and social media. Later on, we could post more simplified content on social media and more complete content on blogs, and perhaps even use social media solely as a gateway to the content we create and control.

There are simple and affordable ways to do this.

It’s not much, and surely not for everyone, but it’s a step in the right direction.
